How To Choose The Best RFID Tag for Asset Tracking
Metalcraft VideosIn Part 1 of the “Launching a Mobile RFID Asset Tracking System” series, Colynn Black, RFID Business Development Director at Metalcraft, explains how to select the right RFID tag for asset tracking. Three main factors must be considered: the surface, environment, and size.
- Surface: RFID tags work best on non-metal surfaces, as the RF energy can fully power the chip. On metal surfaces, the RF signal is reflected, reducing performance. Metalcraft has developed specialized tags with foam backing that function effectively on metal surfaces.
- Environment: Consider the environmental conditions your tags will face. For example, construction tags require abrasion resistance, while IT asset tags may not face as much wear and tear. Choosing the right adhesive and materials is crucial for durability and performance.
- Size: The size of the tag must also be compatible with the asset and its environment, ensuring optimal read range and longevity.
