Custom Hang Tag Offers Flexibility and Versatility for a Variety of Applications

Parking Permit Hang Tags

Not every application allows for a tag or label to be attached directly to the asset; yet the asset still needs to be identified and tracked. Enter the hang tag. This versatile product option offers the flexibility you need for different applications.

What are custom hang tags?

Custom hang tags are identification products that do not directly attach to the asset or object they are intended to track. Rather, they either hang from the asset or are attached using various mechanical fasteners. Hang tags can be customized in a number of different ways – the information printed or programmed to the tag as well as the affixing method and product construction itself.

What are hang tags used for?

Hang tags can be used for a variety of different applications including asset tracking, access control or work-in-process. They are an ideal solution when the application is temporary or when it isn’t feasible to attach the tag directly to the asset it is intended to track. Access control is another great application for hang tags. Think parking permits hanging from the rearview mirror, this is a perfect example of how hang tags can be used. For work-in-process applications the hang tag can be hung on each part going through the production process. Once an order is complete, the hang tag can be removed and used again in the manufacturing process.

What should be on a hang tag?

Information put on or into a hang tag varies depending on the application. In other words, what are you trying to accomplish? Hang tags used for access control applications may have the company name and/or logo as well as a unique identifier, i.e., barcode or RFID inlay that associates the car with the other important information. A hang tag used for asset tracking may have similar information on it.

What sort of industries benefit from using hang tags?

Just like the different applications for hang tags vary so do the different industries that benefit from using hang tags. For asset tracking any industry that does not allow for permanent attachment of the label to the asset would benefit from using hang tags. Perhaps the asset is too small, or the surface is too curved to adhere a tag or label to. For vehicular access control applications, again the hang tag is ideal for either temporary applications or for applications where applying the label or tag directly to the car windshield is either not allowed or just not preferred. Literally any industry can benefit from the versatility and flexibility of hang tags.

What are the benefits of making a custom hang tag?

There are many benefits to making a custom hang tag. First, being able to print the company name and/or logo on the hang tag helps with brand recognition and perhaps even a little advertising. Assigning a unique number and printing/programming that number to the hang tag is another form of customization and the benefit of that is being able to incorporate the number into your system the way you want and not have it dictated by the system. Product construction is another way you can benefit from a custom hang tag. Even though by its nature we are not going to adhere the tag to whatever it is tracking we still need to make sure the tag itself will survive the environment to which it is exposed. For example, a paper hang tag will not hold up the same as a polyester hang tag. Even adding metal grommets to a hang tag construction is a form of customization. Essentially customizing a hang tag to a specific application better ensures the hang tag will perform the way you expect.

How does asset tracking work using a hang tag?

Asset tracking using a hang tag works the same as asset tracking using a standard label or tag. It’s just a different type of construction that works best for assets that do not allow a tag/label direct attachment using adhesive. Print a number and/or barcode on the hang tag to use in the asset tracking system to track information about the asset the hang tag is “attached” to.
