Heather Kappmeyer, Customer Service Lead at Metalcraft, recently received the Patriot award from the ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve). This award recognizes supervisors and bosses nominated by a Guardsman or Reservist employee for support provided directly to the nominator. Spouses of Service members are also eligible to nominate their supportive supervisor.
Kappmeyer was nominated for the award by Metalcraft Customer Service Representative Jordan Mitchell. Mitchell's husband is a member of the Iowa National Guard, and she cites the support and understanding she receives from her lead a primary reasons for nominating Kappmeyer for this prestigious award.
"Heather is the first team lead that I have had to support me during my husband's time served in the (National) Guard," she said. "She (Heather) was willing to work with me when she hired me to delay my start date so I could spend time with my service member when he returned from deployment and worked with me while I went to yellow ribbon events."
ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.
Great job Heather and thanks for the recognition Jordan!
